South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(1) continued...
Neighborhood Revitalization Organization
(NNRO). I would like to share with you that
we support this resolution. We believe this is
one of the most important developments in
the Northeast Neighborhood that has
occurred in, perhaps, its history. The NNRO
is a composite of non-profit entities in the
community and neighbors in the Northeast
neighborhood. The non-profit organizations
are the University of Notre Dame, St. Joseph
Medical Center, Memorial Hospital and
Madison Center. Working with the City of
South Bend and the neighborhood, we have a
Board of Directors that is comprised of
representatives of the non-profit
organizations and the neighborhood. So, this
is a joint non-profit/neighborhood
organization. We believe this project is very
important and it clearly ties back to our plan
for the neighborhood that we approved in
1998. It is the most ambitious project that we
have seen, even with all the wonderful things
that have happened in the Northeast
Neighborhood in the past few years. This is a
very key project for the Northeast
Neighborhood. We are interested in the
Triangle project, which is a new development
of more than sixty homes with a value
greater than $SOM. We think this is very
important in terms of revitalization of the
whole Northeast Neighborhood, in addition
to the Eddy Street Commons project.
Without this bond issue we would not be able
to do our project. The bond issue provides
funding for infrastructure that is needed for
the neighborhood, including reconstructing
12
