BOWEN SAFETY POLICY MANUAL <br />b. Alcohol and other drug dependence are recognized as a serious <br />condition requiring professional treatment. Consequently, any <br />worker who is experiencing problems in their work or personal life <br />due to alcohol and other drug abuse is encouraged to seek help <br />through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). <br />C. The most efficient means of reducing the prevalence of substance <br />abuse is through the provision of continuous education. Education <br />and training will be conducted through formal and informal <br />presentations, flyers and other educational materials. <br />d. The misuse of any prescription, nonprescription or over-the- <br />counter drug and/or medication is prohibited. <br />e.. Legally prescribed drugs and/or medications may be permitted on <br />Bowen premises or workplaces provided the drugs are contained <br />in the original prescription container or provide proof that they are <br />prescribed by a medical practitioner for the current use of the <br />person in possession of the drug and/or medication. <br />fa The prescription must be presented at time of drug screen and/or <br />within three (3) days of a non -negative result to the MRO. Failure <br />to do so will be subject to disciplinary action per Section 3.3.D.2 of <br />this policy. Bowen Management may ask employee to provide a <br />release from a medical practitioner stating the employee meets <br />the requirements of the job description and functional task <br />analysis. <br />g. An employee must notify their supervisor prior to reporting to <br />work, if they are taking a legally prescribed, nonprescription or <br />over-the-counter medication which displays warnings about <br />adverse side effects that may affect job performance or impair an <br />employee's mental or motor functions to safely perform their <br />duties and responsibilities. Using or being under the influence of <br />such a drug and/or medication is prohibited. <br />Bowen reserves the right to determine whether an individual can <br />safely perform their duties and responsibilities while taking the <br />prescription or over-the-counter drugs and/or medications and <br />in some cases may request, the employee obtain written <br />documentation based on the job description, functional task <br />analysis and workplace environment from their medical provider <br />or prescribing physician that details as to how the medication <br />may impair the Employee's work ability and/or safety. <br />ii. Should there be questions concerning the employee's ability to <br />perform the job safely, the employee could be assigned other <br />work, if, at the sole discretion of management, such duties are <br />appropriate and available or the employee may be terminated. <br />Last Revised: May 2016 Section 3 Page 4 <br />
