REGULAR MEETING June 24, 2019
McGraw's players for her to coach you. Thank you for what you do, not just for this team, but for
South Bend.
Councilmember John Voorde stated, Thank you, everyone, for all the enjoyment you've brought
to all of us. I've been fortunate to be a season ticket holder for at least fifteen(15)years and I want
to thank you, in particular, for achieving that eighty-eight (88) point plateau and getting me the
free Big Macs. So, thanks very much.
Councilmember Gavin Ferlic stated, Thank you all for being such a positive part of our
community. Thank you so much.
Councilmember Karen White stated, I would like to echo Councilmember Williams-Preston's and
Broden's remarks. I really am humbled and so touched by the coach standing here. Not only did
she acknowledge the work that she's done, but she spoke in terms of situations that we are dealing
with in our community, and she did it so well. I'm very appreciative of it. I admire you as an
individual. You have stood tall in face of challenges and you spoke the truth. I appreciate you. I've
heard that a single, committed person can make a difference, and you are that person.
Councilmember Tim Scott stated, Thank you, coach. That really sets the bar and that is what you
guys do. Be number one(1). That is setting the bar. So,thank you so much. Thank you, ladies, and
everyone in the Notre Dame Basketball Program. You are part of our community and we absolutely
adore and admire what you guys do in being part of this community. That means so much and that
is something we all can rally around, a central point. We truly appreciate that.
This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and
opponents were given an opportunity to be heard.
Komaneach Wheeler, 1628 South Carlisle Street, South Bend, IN, stated, I just want to recognize
Notre Dame for reaching out to me, even though I got back too late to respond because Tim Scott,
Karen White and I were outside in the war, before this war even started like blood, sweat and tears.
I have an upcoming organization called Single Mom Heart and Notre Dame reached out to me to
do my website for me and to compliment me on what I was trying to implement for single mothers
in the inner City of South Bend. So, when you said what you said, it is so true, and it brought tears
to my eyes because that has been something I've been waiting to hear. I've always been in the
fight. The other day, a lot of people took my roaring as yelling. It took some women, I don't know
where she is but she's somewhere, she works in the Mayor's Office and they pulled me into the
hallway yesterday and said some things to me and it calmed me to where I've been able to cry for
the first (1St) time in eight (8) years. So, I just want to compliment Notre Dame to continue to do
what you do for the African American mothers.
