Protection of W to ply_$ ste <br />In general, any connection between a safe drinking water supply <br />system, public or private, and a potential source of contamination <br />through which pollution of the potable water supply can occur is <br />strictly prohibited, and will be grounds for shut-off. The customer has <br />the primary responsibility of preventing pollutants and contaminants <br />from entering their potable water system(s) or the public potable water <br />system. The customer's responsibility starts at the point of delivery <br />from the public water supply and includes all their water conditioning <br />equipment and piping, including any irrigation system. <br />The Utility reserves the right to inspect all installations and cross - <br />connections to its water supply and may order certain backflow <br />prevention devices be installed in accordance with regulations of the <br />State of Indiana, the American Water Works Association, the EPA, <br />and local codes. Installation and maintenance of all such devices shall <br />be done by the customer at their expense. The City of South Bend has <br />passed Ordinance No. 8356-93 establishing a Water Cross -Connection <br />Control Program to Safeguard the South Bend Public Water Supply in <br />Support of Existing State Law. <br />C. Alterations on Premises <br />Any customer wishing to make alterations to the plumbing system on <br />their premises which would affect the service rendered by the Utility <br />must have the written approval of the Utility. Such alterations would <br />include installation of a booster pump, cross connection, etc. <br />XIII. UTILITY'S RESPONSIBILITY <br />A. Interruptions and Fluctuation <br />The Utility will undertake reasonable care and diligence to avoid <br />interruptions in service and fluctuations in pressure or flow. However, <br />interruptions may occur and variations may be expected. Customers <br />requiring uniform service, pressure or flow should make special <br />provisions on their premises. <br />Whenever the service is intentionally interrupted for any purpose, <br />such interruption shall, except in emergencies, be at a time during <br />such hours which will cause the least inconvenience to customers. <br />Customers who will be affected by such interruption shall, to the <br />extent practical, be notified in advance. <br />B.
