RESOLUTION NO. 221 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br />GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, DEPARTMENT OF <br />REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION <br />FOR EARLY LAND ACQUISITION FOR THE INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION <br />PROJECT, IND. R -56 AND APPROVING THE CONDITION UNDER <br />WHICH RELOCATION PAYMENTS WILL BE MADE <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary and in the public interest that the City of <br />South Bend, Department of Redevelopment avail itself of the financial <br />assistance provided by Title I of the Housing Act of 1949, as amended <br />to undertake early land acquisition and related activities in connection <br />with in urban renewal project described as the Industrial Expansion <br />Proje t situated in an urban renewal area bounded generally by Cotter <br />Stree on the north, Kendall Street on the east, and the New Jersey, <br />India ;a and Illinois Railroad on the south, and Kemble and Prairie <br />Avenu on the west, (hereinafter referred to as the "Project "); and <br />WHERE S, it is recognized that the federal contract which such financial <br />assis ance pursuant to Title I will impose certain obligations and <br />impo§ upon the City of South Bend, Department of Redevelopment and will <br />requi e, among other things, a feasible method for the relocation of <br />famil -es displaced from the urban renewal area in connection with the <br />under aking of early land acquisition and related activities in con - <br />necti n with the Project; and <br />WHERE S, there was presented to the Governing Body of the City of South <br />Bend, Department of Redevelopment for its consideration and approval a <br />set oF conditions under which the City of South Bend, Department of <br />Redev lopment will make relocation payments which set of conditions <br />toget er with the fixed relocation schedule was approved by the Governing <br />Body n October 5, 1967, and which set of conditions and schedule was <br />submi ted to the Regional Office of the Department of Housing and Urban <br />Devel pment as a part of its Part I of the Application for Loan and <br />Grant dated December 31, 1966; and <br />WHEREAS, it is hereby found and determined that the objectives of the <br />Urban Renewal Plan as presently developed cannot be achieved through <br />rehabilitation of the properties in the Urban Renewal Area to be <br />acquired under the proposed Contract for Early Land Acquisition between <br />the Government and the Local Public Agency. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Gover ing Body of the City of South Bend, Department of Redevelopment <br />as f3 lows: <br />1. Tat an application on behalf of the City of South Bend, Department <br />of Re evelopment for the undertaking of early land acquisition, and <br />relat d activities in connection with the project is hereby approved, <br />
