The Honorable Pete Buttigieg August 7, 2012 Page -3- Facilitated by SPP staff. We will ask a few Indiana Chief of Police to participate in the interviews (probably without charge). No charge to the city. The Selection Committee will participate. These are confidential interviews. Initial reference checks will be made at this stage (no charge). 10. Selection of three or four finalist candidates invited to return to South Bend for further interviews, including with the Mayor. The names of the finalists will be released at this time. Prior to the Mayor's interviews,the Mayor will be provided with a briefing package on each candidate which will include their answers to the questions,resume, background internet search, reference check results and related material. 11. Selection of a finalist, arrangement of a background investigation of the candidate prior to announcing that name,and negotiation of a contract if one is required. Background investigation will cost between$5,000 and$9,000 depending on the depth desired. We will suggest names of firms who can undertake the investigation. The firm selected must have no relationship with any candidate or members of the Police Department. 1.2. Mayor's announcement of the selected candidate. For this work,there will be no charge to the City for SPP time, except for a$1 fee to provide a contractual relationship permitting the firm to have access to needed materials from the Police Department. Total cost to the City: $6,800 plus costs for advertising and the background investigation.
