SpU TH 8F <br /> � G <br /> z s <br /> 1865 <br /> CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br /> PETE BUTTIGIEG, MAYOR <br /> OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br /> MAYOR BUTTIGIEG ANNOUNCES POLICE CHIEF SEARCH PROCESS <br /> Policing Strategist Robert Wasserman to Lead Search in South Bend for$I <br /> SOUTH BEND—Mayor Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday announced the launch of the <br /> professional process to select the next Chief of Police for the City of South Bend. <br /> Mayor Buttigieg tabbed Robert Wasserman, the chairman of Strategic Policy Partnership, <br /> to conduct the search for South Bend over the coming weeks. Wasserman has spent most <br /> of this year in South Bend so his wife could be close to her father,who is 99 years old. <br /> While the City has contracted with the firm and some personnel to assist with the process, <br /> Wasserman will conduct the search personally for $1. <br /> "We are fortunate to have one of the top policing and security experts in the country <br /> staying in our own backyard,"Mayor Buttigieg said. "Bob Wasserman assists cities and <br /> police departments across the country and I have the utmost confidence that he will <br /> conduct an open and transparent search that takes input from community leaders, police <br /> officers, and the citizens of South Bend." <br /> Wasserman's clients include the cities and/or police departments of Cincinnati, Oakland, <br /> Milwaukee, Cambridge, Mass., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Stamford, Conn.,New York <br /> City, and Chicago. Further information on Wasserman and his firm is part of this release <br /> for review. <br /> Mayor Buttigieg introduced Wasserman at the South Bend Police Department alongside <br /> Interim Chief of Police Chuck Hurley. Wasserman will spend most of the day Tuesday <br /> meeting with small groups of police officers as well as the head of the Fraternal Order <br /> of Police at the South Bend Police Department. <br /> On Wednesday, Mayor Buttigieg will introduce Wasserman to the Health and Public <br /> Safety Committee of the South Bend Common Council and the Board of Public Safety. <br /> That meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the Council's committee room.
