®CITY OF SOUTH BEND I OFFICE OF THE CLERK
Committeemember Karen White asked, Do you know how long the pods will remain at this current
site?
Ms. Meyer replied, Not really. I don't have an answer to that. I know we've had conversations,
even this morning, about a different type of use for them. They do need to be moved offsite but
we don't have any plans in place right now for a timeframe to say where they would go and what
we would do with them. They are split. There are some there and some in that Sample Street
Business Complex.
Committeemember White followed up, Do you have a timeframe for finding permanent supportive
housing?
Ms.Meyer replied, I would anticipate the development coming out of the Institute would not occur
until 2020. I would assume that.
Committeemember White stated, So, in the meantime, we, as a City, will be going through other
options.
Committee Chair Broden then stated, I also heard a lot of positive feedback from the Polar Vortex.
I am really impressed with the South Bend Community School Corporation,in particular, stepping
up. I'm not certain we had partnered with them to that level before.
Ms. Meyer stated, My role in that was very small. It was really Suzanna in the Mayor's Office and
we were calling bus providers, but everyone had issues in terms of weather conditions with their
buses, the cost, etcetera, and the School Corporation stepped up.
Committee Chair Broden asked, Have we sent any thank yous to them or anybody? Could the
Council help in that regard? If there is anything we could do, co-signings or whatever, I think that
might be nice. And then how about in terms of future years,if we are in the same situation, is there
some site replicability?
Ms. Meyer replied, There are conversations about that at the regional planning council.
Committee Chair Broden followed up, And then with regard to the Tutt Street, there was a time
ticking on that?
Ms. Meyer replied, We are submitting the rezoning this week.
Committee Chair Broden stated,Ok,good. And then what is the anticipation of a different location
for 2019?
Ms. Meyer replied, I can say we are working on it.
Councilmember Tim Scott stated,To follow up on that, working on the next location,do you have
a timeline? I mean, you have some deadlines on that too, don't you?
Ms. Meyer replied, Well, we do from the perspective that if we wish to meet the October 14th goal
that was in the Council's resolution, yes.
