Broden called to order the Health and Public Safety Committee meeting
at 4:00 p.m. She introduced members of the Committee and proceeded with the meeting.
Update-Weather Amnesty Follow-Up
Pam Meyer, Director of Neighborhood Development for the Department of Community
Investment with offices located on the 14`h floor of the County-City Building, stated, I think in part
of our email communications, we didn't quite realize you wanted only Weather Amnesty, so, we
have updates on other things, too.
Committee Chair Broden stated, Great, we'll take it all. That's fine.
Ms. Meyer gave handouts to Committee and Council Members (which are available in the City
Clerk's Office). She stated, I spoke to the providers of the Weather Amnesty Service, both Hope
Ministries and the Center for the Homeless, so I have numbers there and that is the average count
every night (referencing the handout). I think it was kind of an uneventful season other than the
polar vortex which is not the cause of anybody but the weather. There were no significant issues
and, of course, there were some larger numbers that had been anticipated and I think the number
at the Center for the Homeless goes up and down based on people coming to the Center versus
going to the Tutt Street location. Other than that, and just a conversation about what occurred the
days of the polar vortex,it was so cold and there were so many email communications going back
and forth and so many significant community partners and agencies that helped in that. All of the
regional planning council members were commenting at their last meeting saying that it went well.
They were very pleased with all of that and they appreciated the communication, no matter what
time of day or night.
