SUBSTITUTE BILL <br />ORDINANCE N0. ~ ~ 7 S'OS~ <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING <br />CHAPTER 9, ARTICLE 1, SECTION 2 OF <br />THE SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE, TO INCORPORATE <br />THE 2000 EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />The purpose of this ordinance is to amend Section 9-2 of the <br />South Bend Municipal Code, to replace the 1998 Edition of the <br />International Fire Code with the most recent published edition of <br />the fire code used by the State of Indiana and used by the St. <br />Joseph County/City of South Bend Building Department. <br />The 2000 Edition of the International Fire Code, published by <br />the International Code Council (ICC), is the edition currently used <br />by the St . Joseph County/City of South Bend Building Department and <br />it is the Edition preferred for use by the South Bend Fire <br />Department and currently used by the State of Indiana. The <br />enactment of this amendment of Chapter 9, Section 2 of the South <br />Bend Municipal Code will enable the South Bend Fire Department to <br />use and enforce the fire code that is most up to date and <br />consistent with the code used by the Building Department and the <br />State, and to enable the South Bend Fire Department to use the most <br />recently adopted State Fire Code without need for future amendments <br />to the South Bend Municipal Code. <br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend determines that <br />it is necessary to incorporate into Chapter 9 of the South Bend <br />Municipal Code the language of Chapter 6 of the South Bend <br />Municipal Code in order to enable the Fire, Building and Code <br />Enforcement Officials responsible for promoting public safety to <br />use the most current standards available and to conduct their <br />operations consistently with the State of Indiana officials <br />responsible for enforcing fire safety requirements. <br />SECTION I. Chapter 9, Article 1, Section 9-2, of the South <br />Bend Municipal Code shall be, and hereby is, amended to read as <br />follows: <br />Sec. 9-2.
