417. PI Board met in special session at 10: 00 A.M. Mr.- H.• F. Rost iser absent. In regard to the matter bfi,t.he,�Pottowat,omie Park Assessment for the Eddy Street and Mishawaka Avenue pavement improvement, -this matter having bean. considered by the Board tt was unanimously decided to present an ordinance to the Common Council laying thewholi matter before .them and asking, for an ordinance appropr iat ing the sum of $ 5045.48 to the care-ofthe Board of Public Works in "which to pay said assessment. Also'a letter explaining" this and a copy of resolution signed under date of August 28th. 191%. The Board also decided to have ordinance drawn presenting contract for the erect ion of add it ion to the City Hall: to the Council' for -their ratification. and for the sum .of $2.790.0_0 for payment of same The following communication was sent to We D. Dear Sir In 1916 the City of Ysoutl$end adopted a resolution concerning the elevation of tracks of the New York Central Ral'roaci` Lines through the "Cityof South Bend, Ind Tana. This matter was considered by >the Board pf Public Works at numerous meetings held, and just prior to the war, plans, spec if scat ions and estimates were filed by different railroad companies and agraaments ontered into by the City of South Bend, and c -stain railroad companies: During+ therar this ` improvement was held back and no advancement was made., The C ity . now contemplates :the_ , carrying out of the improvement and we have on file Circular No. 44 issued 'by the=United,States Railroad. Adminstration dealing with contemplated, improvement b.. municipalities and limiting the expenditure by the railroad to $500.00 without first obtaining the .Director General of Railroads consent. _ The City 6f South Bend and the people at large are vitally., interested in the elevation of tracks through this City and said improvement is apparently agreeable by the New York Central Railway.Company at the present time. We write this letter to find out the attidude of the United States Railroad Adminstration towards this improvement and whther the carrying out of the improvement atthis time would be agreeable to your department.
