Rost iser absent. <br />In regard to the matter bfi,t.he,�Pottowat,omie Park Assessment for the <br />Eddy Street and Mishawaka Avenue pavement improvement, -this matter having bean. considered <br />by the Board tt was unanimously decided to present an ordinance to the Common Council <br />laying thewholi matter before .them and asking, for an ordinance appropr iat ing the sum <br />of $ 5045.48 to the care-ofthe Board of Public Works in "which to pay said assessment. <br />Also'a letter explaining" this and a copy of resolution signed under date of August 28th. <br />191%. <br />The Board also decided to have ordinance drawn presenting contract <br />for the erect ion of add it ion to the City Hall: to the Council' for -their ratification. <br />and for the sum .of $2.790.0_0 for payment of same <br />The following communication was sent to We D. C. <br />Dear Sir <br />In 1916 the City of Ysoutl$end adopted a resolution concerning the elevation <br />of tracks of the New York Central Ral'roaci` Lines through the "Cityof South Bend, <br />Ind Tana. This matter was considered by >the Board pf Public Works at numerous meetings <br />held, and just prior to the war, plans, spec if scat ions and estimates were filed by <br />different railroad companies and agraaments ontered into by the City of South Bend, and <br />c -stain railroad companies: During+ therar this ` improvement was held back and no <br />advancement was made., The C ity . now contemplates :the_ , carrying out of the improvement <br />and we have on file Circular No. 44 issued 'by the=United,States Railroad. Adminstration <br />dealing with contemplated, improvement b.. municipalities and limiting the expenditure <br />by the railroad to $500.00 without first obtaining the .Director General of Railroads <br />consent. _ <br />The City 6f South Bend and the people at large are vitally., interested in <br />the elevation of tracks through this City and said improvement is apparently agreeable <br />by the New York Central Railway.Company at the present time. We write this letter <br />to find out the attidude of the United States Railroad Adminstration towards this <br />improvement and whther the carrying out of the improvement atthis time would be agreeable <br />to your department. <br />Kindly let us hear from you and oblige. <br />Yours respectfully, <br />G.
