2'?7 <br />Board met in regular session at .10: 00 A.M. All mmmbers present. <br />Mayor F. R. Carson met with the Board and took up the matter of plating <br />lights on Division Street near the City Limits, also the matter of placing sidewalk <br />on one side of Michigan Street from Donmeye r Avenue out south. The Board agreed to make <br />a trip of invest igat ion Wednesday July 17th. ,1918 at night to investigate the placing <br />of the necessary lights on D iw is ion Street. <br />Mr. J. K. Gray, Superintendent of the Chicago, Lake Share & South Bend <br />Pa ilway Company met with the Board as requested and the muter of repairing the <br />places suggested by the Street Commissioner on La Salle Avenue at intersection of <br />La Porte Avenue, Scott Street, Taylor Street and Lincoln Way West, these places being <br />at their r$ght of way, also the removing of gravel between the rails on _ this company's <br />private property at the corner of L& Salle Avenue ,nd La Porte Avenue and crushed stone <br />to be filled in from. the top of the ties to top of rail, to prevent further washing <br />of sand and gravel into the sewer. • Mr. Gray agreed with the Board to takethis <br />matter up with the Officals of the road at Michigan City and notify the Board by letter <br />their action in regard to same. <br />Mt. E. Miller appeared before the Board in regard to hav ing some cinders <br />placed on Calvdr.rt Street near school house The Board instructed Mr. D. C. Layton, <br />St. Com. to place the necessary amount of cinders on said street: <br />A committee from the River Park C iv is Club met with the Board and"I <br />requested that the Board put in double inverted gas lights or 150 c.. p. gas lights on <br />Mishawaka Avenue. The Board advised said committee that they would make a trip of <br />invest igat ion of the lights now there Wednesday exerting July 17th. ,1918'. <br />The Board unanimously agreed that a notice be sent to Fred Corporaa <br />that he should fix up the c and it ion in the alley east of 11th. , Street and the sidewalk <br />an Eleventh Street as per terms of his contract dated September l7tb ,1917. The same to <br />be fixed within thirty days from date of notice or the City would have same taken care — <br />of at his expense. <br />A bid from the Williston Construction Company for asphalt at_14.9D per <br />ton was opened and read and the same referred to the Street Commissioner. <br />_ It was unanimously dec ided by'the Board that the contract for Trunk <br />'sewer system in Marquette Park Addition, be awarded to Geogge Harrop at the prices <br />received in bid .filed with the Board -Tuesday July 9th. ,1918 at 10: 00 A.M. <br />'fhe Board - approved Excavation bond for the sum of One Thousand Dillars <br />of H G. Christman Co.* <br />Communication received from the South Bend News -Times, stating that be <br />more free newspapers would be furnished. Same read and placed on file. <br />Petition received for a water main on South Carroll Street from Mil ton <br />Street to Dayton Street. Same referred to the Water Department. <br />The Street Commissioner recommended to the Board the they purchase . <br />50 tens of sheet asphalt at $14.50 per ton from the Williston Construction-Ce. The Beard <br />approved of the same, and the Clerk was instructed to notify said company , of the Order. <br />Communication received from J. K. Gray, Supt. of the Chicago, Lake Shore <br />and South Bend Railway Company relative to large pile #f brick out in the street along <br />the tracks of this Company at the oorner of College and Orange Street, stating that there <br />was no brick there. Same referred to the Street Commissioner for investigation. <br />
