Certified check in the sum of $640.00 despos iced <br />with bid. <br />All of the aforesaid bids were referred to the �Ity Divil, Engineer for <br />tabulation to be reported on at 7: 45 P.M. this 20th. day of November 1917 „ <br />Mr. D. U. Layton, Street Commissioner met with the Board and reported <br />orally about his .trip Of invesgt igat ion. to different cities in regard to piggeries <br />and cities selling garbage. <br />Partial estimate allowed The Williston Construction Company for asphaltic <br />concrete pavement on Howard Street from Niles Avenue to Notre Dame Avenue at.... 99,281.81 <br />The following appeal was received read and placed on file for two weeks. <br />Tn Re An Order by <br />the Building Commissioner <br />of the City of South Bend: A P P E A L. <br />The undersigned represents to your Honorable Body that he is the owner <br />of the followin described real-estate in the City of South Bend to wit:- Lot numbered <br />397 in the Original Plat of the town , now City.of South Bend, which lot is situate <br />at the Southwest corny of Lafayette and 4efferson Street.. <br />That he occupies the dwelling house on said. lot as his home. That <br />during the uonth of October he repaired said dwelling by removing an old shingle roof <br />and replacing it with an asphalt shingle roof. That on the South and West side of his <br />house are other dwellings with shingle roofs and on the north and east side are streets. <br />That the location is such that in a few 51apre the inevitable must be, and that all of <br />said dwellings will have to be removed and business houses erected in their stead. That <br />the construction of his said dwelling is such that it will. almost, if not wholly destroy <br />his dwelling to place thereon. ae slate or the roof. <br />That the building commissioner if said City on the 15th. day of November <br />1917 ordered by written notice that the said building within -20 days be made to conform <br />tothe ordinances by placing thereon some incombustible roof. <br />*That the undersigned respectfully appeals from said order to your <br />honorable body and asks that his said order be vacated and made of no affect. <br />BENJ. Tuesday November 27th.,1917 for the <br />✓ print ing of the annual reports of 1917. <br />Cert if ieates of the type of wooden block, location of plant etc.,, filed <br />by the Jennison -Fright Company old the White Construction Company. Same were read and <br />placed on file. <br />The Board ordered that the matter of 'a frame •shedel at rear of 214 No. <br />Michigan Street put up by V. C. Hastings be deferred until Tuesday December 4th.,1917 <br />mat 10:00 A.M. <br />Guarantee bond for the anunt of One Hundred and fifth (1$ 150.00) <br />signed by H. N. Barnes as principal and Chas. Suabedisen and T. C. Barnes as sureties, <br />for pgvement on Sunnyaide Avenue from La Salle Avenue to McKinley Street, was approved <br />✓ by the Board. <br />RegardI.ng .the .mortar .or .sand cushion under the brick under the street car <br />tracks on Eddy Street .and Mishawaka .Avenue.. , .The Street car .Company having been notified <br />and hav ing ens idered the matter represented to the Board through their attorney H. A. <br />Wair that their company would not elect to pay the extrs ambt.t for mortar cushion <br />and notified the Board that the sand cushion would be datisfactoryr and #.hat they would <br />raise no question at the assessor nt roll hearing on the question. 8f sand_ i cushion.. being <br />used. The City Attorney 'sass • advised In- the premises and recommended tshe above- solution, <br />The City Engineer is herefore duly authorised and requested to permit the use of sand <br />cushion under the brick under the street car tracks on above mentioned street.and <br />avenue and the Board finds accordingly. <br />
