Background information on the health hazards of chemicals and physical
Hazards of chemicals.
- Background information of all applicable chemicals will be provided to the
Project Forman on the site. They will also be available at the warehouse. Container
Labeling
It is the responsibility of the chemical manufacturer or distributer to ensure that
each and every container of hazardous chemicals is properly labeled tagged or marked.
The label should include the following.
• Name or identity of the chemical.
• Appropriate hazards and warnings
• Name and address of the chemical manufacturer or responsible party
It is our policy at EGI that no label, tag or marking be removed from any container
by any circumstances.
If a chemical needs to be transferred for its original container, the new container
will be properly labeled.
- The only exception to this is if the chemical is being transferred to a temporary
container for immediate use of the employee that performs the Transfer.
If a container is received or has become unmarked than this container will
not be used or dispensed until it is properly marked to ensure the correct use of its
containing.
Safety data sheets - SDS
• EGI will have the appropriate SDS for each and every hazardous chemical used by
any EGI employee.
• These SDS Sheets will help to identify the health and physical hazards of the
chemicals that our employees are working with. They all have several different sections
that all have specific information.
• All of our foremen will maintain an SDS packet. The foremen will notify
• All other employees of the contents within this packet and will make all information
available at all times.
• The foreman will also notify the employees of any updates to the SDS packet, this is
done to ensure that all employees have been updated on the potential health hazards.
• Employees will be advised on how to access SDS sheets upon their initial training. They
will be updated during regular toolbox talks.
