Airport Economic Development Area <br /> (2) continued... <br /> five items were discovered that need to be <br /> addressed: <br /> • contaminated soils were found <br /> (removal cost $10,000) <br /> • skim coat original wood floor to <br /> make it level ($12,000) <br /> • fiber optic line to the building <br /> ($11,000) <br /> • design modification requires a new <br /> water heater($1,800) <br /> • night drop off area cages ($2,240) <br /> To address these items and complete the <br /> project, $43,000 in additional funding is <br /> needed. This amount allows approximately <br /> $6,000 contingency in case another item is <br /> discovered. <br /> Staff requests Commission approval of an <br /> additional $43,000, to complete this <br /> important project for the care and control of <br /> the animal population in South Bend. <br /> Mr. Varner asked when the facility would <br /> open. Ms. Toppel responded that it could <br /> open the end of May, with a Grand Opening <br /> the third week of June when the mayor is <br /> available. <br /> Mr. Varner asked what the final cost is. Ms. <br /> Toppel responded $1,943,000. <br /> Ms. Toppel added that some of the <br /> contaminated soils have been removed from <br /> the site. There were insurance funds from <br /> 11 <br />
