South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —March 13, 2012
7. PROGRESS REPORTS (CONT.)
in the system. We think we can provide service to the
businesses and remind them to protect their benefits, at
the same time lessening their reporting requirements to
the city, provide better service to the Counsel with one
report, and save staff time, too.
Mr. Varner wondered why anyone thought the South
Shore and Norfolk Southern would relocate to
downtown when about fifteen years ago they were dead
set against it. Mr. Schalliol responded that the reason
they wouldn't do it back when Transpo wanted them to
was that the Transpo built its new transfer facility about
1000 fee too far to the east. Closer to Union Station
would have been possible then, and should help now.
8.
