�2j `3 %2' <br />Hearing given on Vacation Resolution No. 30 for the purpose of <br />vacating Street and alleys in the Stiover-Longley Addition, In the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana. • <br />In the above matter no remonstrators appreard and no :written remon- <br />strance was filed, and the Board therefore sustain all former action taken and <br />declare the above described property in all thingd vacated and this resolution <br />in all things ratified, confirmed and approved. <br />Resolved further that the City Engineer be instructed to prepare a roll <br />showing awards of damages and assessments of benefits to all parties and properties <br />interested in the above matter. <br />Mr. H. J. Slot contractor on contract for cleaning and deepening <br />Me Cartney Creek appeared before the Board and stated that there was more yards of <br />excavation in said contract for above improvement that what he bid on. City <br />Engineer for instructed to investigate this matter. <br />Partial estimate allowed C. H. De Frees on lst. alley West of Lafayette <br />Street from Colfax Avenue to La Salle Avenue Asphalt Pavisment for ....... $'736.80 <br />Partial estimate allowed C. H. De Frees for brick pavement improvement <br />on 1st. alley west of Michigan Street from La Salle Avenue to Madison Street°and <br />lst. alley north of La Salle Avenue between Michigan St. and Main Street <br />for the amount of ... ..................................................$1037.00 <br />Clerk instructed to write to the Michigan Central Ry. Company and <br />state that the time had now -expired for the changing of the turn table on Cedar <br />Street as per arrangement with the Board. Alsot to notify thmmto put the viaduct <br />in safe condition over Leeper Avenue, as since the constrpction of sidewalks under <br />the same said openings are very dangerous. This work to be dome at once. <br />Clerk instructed to send bill for the amount of Twenty Two ($22.00$ <br />to Stephenson Underwear Mills for theeost of putting vacation Resolution No. <br />29 through for printing, advertising and miscell, neous ex)ense. <br />City Engineer peesented to the Board,report of inspectors on <br />Asbhaltic Concrete work on Indiana Avenue. Same read and placed on. file. <br />Communication received from Deahl & Hammerschmidt attorneys for <br />Mrs. Adele Bickford in regard to water taps on Michigan Street. The same was read <br />and placed on file. <br />Petition for pavement nn first alley west of..Michigan Street between <br />Madison Streeu and Marion Street was received by the Board read and placed on file. <br />Petition filed.with the Board for the opening of William Street <br />from Colfax Avenue duo north to Michigan Avenue; also to open a street from <br />Marion Street north to the intersection or point of intersection of Navarre Street <br />and Portage Avenue. Same placed on file no action taken. <br />Communication received from Dr. Charles Bosenbury, Secy. of the <br />Health Board in regard to insanitary condition of sewer at the south end og <br />Leeper Bridge. The same was read and placed on file. The Street Commissioner <br />has been instructed to lower this sewer outlet. <br />The following communication was received, read and plp-ced on file. <br />To the Board of Public Works, of the <br />City of South Bend , Indiana:- - <br />As President of the Indiana Northern Railway and of <br />the Oliver Chilled Plow Works, I respectfully remonstrate against the adoption. <br />v of the plan now before your• honrrable body for track elevation in this eitym so <br />far as it affects the copporat:ions above named. <br />The plan, if carried out as indicated, will damage <br />.our property at and near Chapin Street, will effectually cut off oureonnections <br />with the New York Central Railroad and the Grand Trunk Railway, cause a loss <br />generally to out business that I do not consider warranted by the necessities of <br />the case. <br />J .
