The matter of permission to cross, streets -by the Grand Trunk <br />Railway Company was deferred until June 3rd.,1920. at 1:30 P.M. <br />The following communication received from the Chamber of .Commerce <br />was received, read and placed on file. <br />June 2nd.,1920. <br />Mr. Gilbert A . Elliott, IWha irman. <br />Board of Pub 1 is Works, <br />South Bend, Indiana., <br />Dear Mr. Elliott: - <br />In compliance with the request of your office to have .the Chamber <br />of Commerce Coliseum Committee make any suggestion to the Board concerning Matter <br />Of a $ ite for proposed coliseum, we beg to say that: <br />Our committee, Messrs. George Robertson, J. M. Stephenson and F. <br />A. Miller, met and I am instructed to say that because of the finane-iAl situation - <br />of the City and various other c and it ions, especially cost of materials and need for <br />hospital expansion, etc . , that it is our belief that the City of South Bend is not, <br />at the moment, prepared to make a dec is ion c oncerning a ddf inite s ite for a coliseum. <br />Therefore, this committee, being purely a co-operative body, feels that at the present <br />time no further steps should be taken in the matter. <br />Then, twos , there may be a City Plan put into effect, and we <br />believe final dec is ion -of such an important matter as a coliseum site should not be <br />hastily decided, but become part of such a plan. <br />We believe you will agree with us that this is the proper move <br />at the moment. <br />Cordially yours,, <br />• SOUTH BEND CHAMBER OF COMMEBEE <br />BY FRANK J. GREEN, <br />FJG-VM • Manager. <br />The Board considered the above communication and it was unanimously <br />decided by the Board not to purchase the Beyer Tract of ground at this time for a <br />coliseum. <br />Petition filed by the Attorney Schuyler Hubbell for the Indiana <br />Northern Railroad Company for permission to construct tracks over Walnut Street and <br />Olive Streets in this City to the Oliver Chilled Plow Works was referred to the City <br />Attorney by the Board for a written report. <br />The Board ordered a light placed at the intersection of Michigan. <br />Street and Calvert Street. <br />Excavation bond for the sum of One Thousand Dollars signed by the <br />Oliver Chilled Plow Works was approved by the Board. <br />The Board instructed the City ,Engineer to increase M. Brennan <br />Draughtsmen in the Engineering Department from $3.50 per day to $4.00 per day. <br />Contract for the Trunk sewer on Fellows Street and EwIng Avenue <br />was awarded to George Pontarelli at....... „ *---..*$22,557.00 <br />Contract for grade, curb and walk on Hydraulic Avenue awarded to <br />McCready Construction Company at .......................................$ 868.75 <br />Awarding of contract on Bertrand and Meade Street from Kenwood <br />Avenue to Meade Street pipe sewer was deferred until Thursday June 3rd.,1920 at <br />1:30 P.M. <br />
