ARTICLE 111. - EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ADVISORY BOARD Page I of 2 <br /> Indianapolis - Marion County, Indiana, Code of Ordinances >>TITLE III - PUBLIC HEALTH AND <br /> WELFARE >>Chapter 581 - HUMAN RELATIONS; EQUAL OPPORTUNITY>>ARTICLE 111. - EQUAL <br /> OPPORTUNITY ADVISORY BOARD >> <br /> ARTICLE Ill. - EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ADVISORY BOARD <br /> 1r E <br /> Sec. 581-301.-Board.created;Purpose. <br /> Sec. 581-302.-Composition of board:appointment and terms of members. <br /> Sec. 581-303.- Meetings;vote required for board action. <br /> Sec. 581-304.-General powers and duties. <br /> See. 581-301. - Board created; purpose. <br /> There is hereby created an equal opportunity advisory board empowered as provided in this chapter <br /> to carry out the public policy of the state as stated in the Indiana Civil Rights Law at IC 22-9-1-2,and the <br /> Indiana Fair Housing Law, at IC 22-9.6-1-1,within the territorial boundaries of the county, and the public <br /> policy of the city,as stated in this chapter. <br /> (G,0. 111,2005,§1) <br /> -J <br /> Sec. 581-302. -Composition of board; appointment and terms of members. <br /> (a) Effective July 1, 2006,the board shall consist of fourteen(14)members. Eight(8)members shall be <br /> appointed by the mayor and six(6)members shall be appointed by the council. In addition,the <br /> administrator shall be an ex officio member of the board. In the appointment of members,the mayor <br /> and the council shall consider the following: <br /> (1) No more than four(4)members of the board appointed by the mayor shall be from any one(1) <br /> Political party. No more than three(3)members of the board appointed by the council shall be <br /> from any one(1)political party;and <br /> (2) In making appointments to the board,the mayor and the council shall take into consideration <br /> all interests in the community, including but not limited to age, racial,ethnic, sexual,sexual <br /> orientation, gender identity, religious and economic groups, business, labor,persons with <br /> disabilities and the general public. <br /> (b) A board member may be removed forjust cause, including nonattendance, by a two-thirds(213)vote <br /> of the board. <br /> (c) In the event of the death, resignation or removal of any member of the board prior to the expiration of <br /> his or her term,the appointing authority shall make an appointment to fill the vacancy for the <br /> unexpired term of the member. <br /> (d) All appointments to the board that were made prior to December 1,2005,and that have not <br /> otherwise expired shall expire on July 1,2006.All appointments made on or after December 1,2005, <br /> shall be for three-year terms beginning on the first day of July and ending on the last day of June. <br /> Any member of the board whose term has expired after July 1, 2006, may continue in office until a <br /> successor has been appointed. <br /> (e) The mayor shall appoint from the membership of the board a chairperson who shall serve a one-year <br /> term and until his or her successor is appointed and qualified, but serves at the pleasure of the <br /> mayor. 1 <br /> (f) The chairperson shall appoint a vice-chairperson and a secretary to serve during his or her term of <br /> office. <br /> (G.O. 111,2005,§ 1) <br /> J <br /> ............ ..------ <br /> Sec. 581-303. - Meetings; vote required for board action. .... <br /> The board shall hold regular meetings every two(2)months on a day agreed upon by the board.The <br /> board shall hold special meetings as may be called by two-thirds(213)of the membership.
