South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—December 13, 2011
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. Airport Economic Development Area
(2) continued...
She came to feel that South Bend's
distinction was its Public Works director,
Gary Gilot, the prototyping he was doing
based on Notre Dame discoveries, and the
implementation of innovative solutions he
was bringing national recognition to South
Bend for. She felt that Ignition Park needed
to carry that story forward. She looked for a
architectural and engineering firm that could
design Ignition Park with that kind of
innovative ecosystem, a firm whose strength
was in engineering. Mr. Gilot introduced her
to BSA LifeStructures. She also felt that
Notre Dame needed to be happy with the
selection also, since the tech park was jointly
established with Notre Dame. They were
fully supportive of the choice of BSA. BSA
had done Remick Hall and its clean room,
and the IU Med Center expansion. This
plan really addresses the environment. It
addresses the city's opportunity to be green,
but in a respectful way toward the tenants of
the park and for the financial return on that
investment.
Mr. Chris Lake, BSA, noted that BSA looked
59
