Ryan Fireprotection
Additional Clarifications
City of South Bend Tax Abatement Application
Clarification to Question 16: Please list the number offull-time and part-time minority
employees for each of the last three years.
Ryan Fireprotection has been in operation in South Bend for approximately 4 years and currently
employs 17 people. At start-up, the facility employed 3 professional staff. The office has grown
to employ 4 professional staff and 13 field employees. The field employees are members of the
Sprinkler Fitters Union and were hired locally. Hiring of these positions is highly dependent on
the applicant flow through the local apprenticeship program.
Ryan Fireprotection makes every effort to hire and retain a diverse workforce. Overall, the
company employs 5% minorities and 10% women at their 4 Indiana locations (Noblesville, Ft.
Wayne, South Bend and Valparaiso). The company plans to hire 15 new employees in South
Bend as part of this project. The company will make every effort to match or exceed the current
proportion of minority and female employees company-wide.
Clarification to Question 22: Information on the companies through which construction
materials will be'purchased for the project.
Ryan Fireprotection plans to hire Majority Builders to manage and construct their new facility. It
has been indicated that 36% of materials will be purchased in St. Joseph County, with 64%
purchased outside the county.
One major supplier for this project, Varco Pruden (VP), accounts for 90% of the non-local
purchases. VP is a world leader in the pre-engineered steel systems construction industry, each
year manufacturing approximately 6,000 buildings. The company is headquartered in
Tennessee and operates 6 regional offices in the U.S. VP specializes in the computer-aided
design ofpre-engineered steel systems construction for low-rise, nonresidential buildings such as
the building Ryan Fireprotection is construction. VP is a green builder, certif ed to meet
environmentally-friendly, energy efficiency standards. Majority Builders works regularly VP. A
similar service and product are not available locally.
One other supplier, Anco Supply, accounts for the remainder of the non-local purchases.
