CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />The final film of painted surfaces shall be smooth and uniform, free of grit, <br />streaks, blushing, runs, sagging, blisters, "fish -eyes, "orange peel", pinholes, or <br />other surface irregularities. Exterior finish paint shall not be required on the <br />underbody and inside surface of the body skirting. The modular body shall be <br />painted with an AkzoNobel (or equal) high quality automotive polyurethane <br />acrylic paint. <br />10.1.1 All modular body doors shall be removed prior to paint and shall <br />be painted separately from the modular body, After painting, the doors are to be <br />re -installed. The doors shall be painted using the same method as the modular <br />body. <br />10.2 Modular Body Preparation. The entire exterior of the modular <br />body shall be cleaned and prepared for painting according to the following <br />minimum requirements: <br />10.2.1 Substrate Preparation: <br />• The modular body shall be thoroughly degreased using an acetone degreaser and <br />the wipe on — wipe off method. <br />• Any areas that require filling will be first be abraded with 80 grit sandpaper using <br />a DA orbital sander. If any welds require grinding, 24 grit paper shall be used. <br />Any plastic filler used shall be mixed and applied per Manufacturer's instructions. <br />After filler application, the surface shall be prepared using 80 grit sandpaper <br />followed by 120 grit paper using a DA orbital sander. <br />• A minimum of two (2) coats of Wash primer EMCF shall be applied to all plastic <br />filler areas allowing to flash five (5) minutes between coats. <br />• The Wash primer shall be sanded with 320 grit sandpaper using a DM orbital <br />sander. <br />• A fine textured glazing putty shall be used to fill any additional surface flaws, <br />pinholes and/or scratch marks. After curing, the surface shall be sanded with 320 <br />grit sandpaper using a DA orbital sander. <br />• The substrate shall be sanded with 180 grit sandpaper using a DA orbital sander to <br />remove any final imperfections. <br />• The modular body shall again be thoroughly degreased using M-600 degreaser <br />and the wipe on — wipe off method. <br />• All comer extrusions and the top drip rail to be caulked as necessary. <br />10.2.2 Aluminum Pretreatment. The modular body shall be pretreated <br />with a chromium free conversion coating that is specifically formulated for <br />treating aluminum and its alloys. Prior to the pretreatment application, all <br />diamond plate is to either be removed or properly masked to prevent staining. <br />10083-0016 08/27/18 <br />24 <br />
