Owing to the disability of Police �fficer, �tis Cunningham, the Board after fully discussing the matter decided to transfer IV�elvin J. iioelkel, who yvas apz�ointed to the Fire Departrient on i1ov. 14 for ac- tive service beginning December lst, to the Police �epartment subject to assignment by the Chief of Police and subject to nhysical examina- tion by the Poliee doctor. Upon regular motion made by. T�ir. Anderson and seconded by Mr. Z�illmer, the above motion was regularl.y carried. ELECTRIGAI, DE��;,RTi�i-�'tiT - Iuir. POLICE D��"°AFcTi�ILivT - Chie� Lane present: Communication s were received from T�r. Thoma.s B. Pauszek cnd Dr. L. F. Fisher, copy of «rhich follo«s, with reference to tne con dition of Police 0�'ficer Otis Cunningham. Due to the nature of the illness and the uncertainty of the officer's recoverg, the Board on regular motion bg I�Zr. Anderson, seconded by P�qr. Zillmer and duly carried",: placed Officer Curzningham on disability pension retirement, beginning Dec. lst,1938. "Dear Sir: Confirming my telephone report of yesterday in regard to Mr. Otis Cun- - ninghsm tivho has been on the sick list since August, 1938, becFUwe of a tumor mass in his thoracic cavity, und a.lso on e present in the abdon�inal c�vity. Becauss of the location o�' these tunor masses, zt vrds impossibZe to deterrnine the nature of this tursor growth, and xray treatment was �d- ti ised. Dr. Fisher has been treating irir. Cunningh�m since 1�ugust u5, 1938, and renorts the thoracic mass gone, but he is still treating th e abdominel mass. In viei�r of the nature of the disease and the poor physical condition of Mr. Cunningham, I doubt �}hether he will be able to return to vrork within the next four months, ip then. From the histories of this type of case, I doubt'�whether he will ever be able to do active duty. _ I sm enclosing the renort sent by lir.
