South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -December 7, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearing
(5) continued...
to pay for bunkers at the golf course or curbs
and sidewalks. The golf course's move to
pay for capital improvements out of its own
funds means we don't have to make those
decisions. He commended the managers
there for making those changes. It is a very
business-like way for them to operate.
B. Tax Abatements
(1) Commission approval requested for
Resolution No. 2415 approving an
application for real property tax deduction
in the Northeast Neighborhood
Development Area. (918 N. St. Peter)
Mr. Mathia gave the staff report on the
residential tax abatement. Brian and Allison
Levey intend to construct a 2,200 square
foot, 2-story home with a three car garage.
Plans call for the home to have three
bedrooms, three bathrooms and an open front
porch, stone patio and a full finished
basement. The structure that is currently on
the property will be demolished. The price of
the home is $325,000. Total taxes to be
abated during the five-year abatement period
are estimated at $10,262. Total taxes to be
paid during the five-year abatement period
are estimated to be $23,760. The property is
properly zoned for the proposed use. The
property is located in the Northeast
Neighborhood Development Area, therefore
approval of the abatement petition by the
Redevelopment Commission is required. The
project qualifies for five years of residential
32
