South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -December 7, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearing
(4) continued...
was an error.
Ms. Jones opened the public hearing on PusLic HEARING oN RESOLUTION No. 2405
Resolution No. 2405 for anyone who wished
to speak. There was no one who wished to
speak. Ms. Jones closed the public hearing
on Resolution No. 2405.
(5) Commission approval requested for
Resolution No. 2405.
Mr. Peczkowski noted that it appears the pro
shop is a drain on the course as whole. It
doesn't seem to be pulling its weight.
Concessions are doing very well. He asked
what the strategy is to address the pro shop's
losing money. Rick Reid, General Manager
of Blackthorn Golf Course, said they have
taken measures to increase their margins in
the pro shop. They instituted C1ubFest, a
large merchandise sale. Bobicks
discontinued its Tent Sale. Blackthorn felt it
could capitalize on that additional market for
merchandise. This was the first year for Club
Fest. They think they can do better with it
next year. Also, the outings business has
been very competitive this year. Country
clubs have taken some of Blackthorn's
business. They have used the merchandise
prizes as a loss leader.
Mr. Peczkowski noted the increased course
fees. He asked if that was for both
residential and non residential. Mr. Reid
responded that Blackthorn has kept rates flat
for the last three years while expenses have
30
