South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -December 7, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearing
(1) continued...
Public Hearing Resolution No. 2400
street grid on the Michigan Street "S-curve"
coming into the downtown. Those projects
proceed as developments occur at the
hospital, so we try to keep the money
appropriated at the beginning of the year and
ready to be used. However, its use is subject
to the time schedule of the hospital as it
develops new facilities. We are not sure it
will be spent in 2008.
Ms. Jones asked if there was anyone from the
public who wished to speak regarding
Resolution No. 2400.
GlendaRae Hernandez: Why do we need to
redo the S-curve?
Mr. Inks: Part of the development up there is
hampered. There are triangular parcels.
Restoring the street grid gets back to a more
developable site for the hospital's expansion.
Mr. Inks noted that all of the increment in the
Downtown Medial Services District TIF
comes from a taxable hospital property,
Navarre Place. 100% of the increment
comes from hospital development.
Mr. Peczkowski: Is that one of the few
taxable properties the hospital has? I recall
going through the list. There's not much
that's being taxed.
19
