Ernest �Tiller, Engineer of the Bureau of Aceident Prevention, <br /> reported that the Superior Store Fixture Company at 116 and 118 East <br /> 1�ayne Street would I.ike to establish a 120 ft, loadin� zone. His <br /> investigatian disclosed that they really need this privilege as they <br /> have no place to load or unload in the rear and double parking at this <br /> location v�ould be hazardous. I3e reoommended that permission be granted. <br /> The Board authorized it and the matter was referred to the Chief of <br /> Police. <br /> H. J. Jaster at 1901 South li�ain Street requested "3 Hour ParkingT' <br /> signs be permitted at that poin� in front of the building oacupied by <br /> himself, the Interstate Distributing Company and the ll2ills Trucking <br /> Company. They are vrilling to purchase the signs if permission is <br /> granted to display them. The matter �as referred to Officer Miller of <br /> the Acciuent Prevention Bureau for investigation and recommendation. <br /> The Hodges 8e MaoIntosh F�argarine _requested the privilege of <br /> displaying "3 Hour Parking" signs in front of 1126 South Lafayette Blvd. <br /> and �vill be willing to pay for the signs if granted permission to <br /> display them. The matter v�as referred to Officer I�Jliller of the <br /> Accident Prevention Bureau for investigation and reconmendation. <br /> A diseussion among the Board Members vras had in reference to <br /> re=routing Highway Tdo. 112 and direeting the traffic over South Street <br /> instead of �Jlonroe Street as at present, in order to eliminate the <br /> congestion at �onroe Street and v�est of D2ichigan Street. The matter <br /> vras referred to Officer Miller of the Aecident Bureau for investigation <br /> and report.�� <br /> A communication �ras received from Harry E. Bolt, Chairman of the <br /> South Bend Civic Safety Counoil requesting that an appropriation be <br /> reque�ted for traffic signs of various kinds at an estimated cost of <br /> one thousand dollars. No action was taken in referenee to this matter. <br /> Mr. Bolt further requested that in order to provide the proper _ <br /> authority within the recently established Accident Prevention Bureau <br /> the person in charge should hold the rank of Sergeant and requested <br /> that an appropriation be established amounting to .�144.00 for this <br /> purpose. The Board, in considering this matter and finding that the <br /> budget f or 1936 will be suffioient to make this promotion to the first <br /> of the year, by re�ular motion, seconded and carried, advanced Officer <br /> Patrick Burns to the rank oP Sergeant from September 15, 1936 to <br /> December 31, 1936, and if the budget for 1937 will permit his rank as <br /> Sergeant vrill be continued. <br /> Applications for position on the Police Department were received <br /> from Joseph Pinter and Daniel J. Koegan. These were ordered placed <br /> on file. <br /> Surety bond in favor of L. H. �1ert, police officer, in the United <br /> States Fidelity & Guaranty Company was approved and placed on file. <br /> Continuation certificate in favor of special police officer Karl E. <br /> Koontz was approved and filed with the original bond. <br /> Special police commission was issued in favor of Edvaard G.
