Gentlemen: - We wish to thank you for the list of contemplated paving improvements which accompanied. your letter of May 24th.9 At this time I wish to report our progress on same. Items Nos. 1 and 8 are entirely completed, Items Nos, 293, 4 and 8 ake underway. - Items 6,79 10 912 and 15 oover pavements in alleys where no work is required by us. Item No. 11 -no work will be necessary by us on account of narrow pavement _ Items 4,13,14916,17 and 18 have not yet been started. R lAn t r letter of ay llth: c veri g esti ted iffe e e in the cast of brie ai�ci sp � pavement, for the re iav ng o a por ion o La Salle Avenue; I beg to advise that I submitted your estimate to our Executive Committee and they do not feel that we ,s ould incur or assume _any portion of the exepnse' in' repaving the street, other than the rebuilding of our tracks --and putting same in first class condition for the repaving. As a matter of fact, the burdens that our company, as well as the majority of other traction lines in Indiana, have has to carry for several years past., have left the average company in such a position financially that, regardless of what they would like to do in many instances, they are dorced to restrict their expenditures to the minimum; and in many instances, have been unable to carry out many obligations that they had assumed. It is the policy of our company ft do everything that is required of it , but in our present condition we.cannot assume any burdens other than those we have legally incurred.- C FILED Yours -very truly, C.
