719 To the Hon. Board of Public Works, of the City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen :- I herewith sub mit the estimated cost of the cement walk and cement curb im— provement on Dubail Avenue from the West line of High Street to Dale Avenue at .0.4983.00 RespectfL lly subMitted, Frederick J. Anderson, City Engineer. Contractors bond for the sum of One Thousand ($11,000.00)Dollars signed by Chas. Jordon as priniepal and United States Fidelity & Guaranty Company of Maryland as sureties was approved by the Board. Bond and contract for Grade, curb walk and graveling of Hill Street from Howard Street to Corby. Street, under Improvement Resolution No." 399, signed by H.L.Davis as prinicipal and London & Lancashire Guarantee and Accident Co. as'sureties, was approved by the Board. Pet'itiori -for to remove sand and dirt off of sidewalks on the south side of West Sample Street from C.&S.B.RR Tracks and Prairie Avenue S.W. The same was reported to have been taken care by Mr. A. H. Rice. Communication received from The Employers' Liability Assurance Corporation Limited of London,England, was read and placed on file. In reference to your recent in juiry, I advise you that the State Industrial Board has written me to the effect that under Section 68 of this act, they will not require cities to carry insurance upon the employees of the City, and that it will not be necessary for the city to make any showing as to its financial ability to pay for any lose accruing under the statute. It, therefore, appears that it till not be necessary for you to go to the expense of taking out, such insurance. Yours very truly, E. F. SEEBIRT. Compliant received of defective condition of walk on Dubail Ave. just east of Leer St. St. Commissioner reports nothing wrong there. Intersection at Northeast corner -of North St. Peter St. and Eadt Cedar Street ordered put in. Complaint received about sand on sidewalk at northeast Cor. of Sorin St. & Arthur Street. Property owner ordered to be notified to clean same. President.
