SOUTH BEND BOARD OF PARK CONMUSSIONERS REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 15, 2011 The Board of Park Commissioners of the Park District of the City of South Bend, Indiana met on Monday August 15, 2011 at the O'Brien Administration&Recreation Center, 321 E. Walter St., South Bend, Indiana for its regular meeting. Notice of the date,time and place of the meeting were duly given as required by law. Park Board members present were as follows: Mr. Robert Henry,President Mr. Robert Goodrich,Vice President Dr. Thomas Kelly Park Board members absent were as follows: Mr. Garrett Mullins Staff members present: Bill Carleton,Fiscal Officer;Betsy Harriman,Administrative Director; Susan O'Connor,Recreation Director; Randy Nowacki,Director of Golf Operations; Terry DeRosa,Zoo Director;Richard Payton,Development Director; Mike Dyszkiewicz,Maintenance Superintendent; Thomas Bodnar,Park Board Attorney I. The meeting was called to order by Board President Robert Henry at 4:04 p.m. II. The first order of business was the interviewing of interested citizens. 1. Mr. Leonard Griimnel, 1919 S. Carlisle St., South Bend, IN,read a statement in rebuttal to the Park Board's letter to the South Bend Tribune regarding the Board's concern with the recently enacted Senate Bill 292 that overrides restrictions on the carrying of firearms in public areas. 2. Ms. Lyn Kachmarik of the South Bend Silver Hawks reported that the new stadium upgrades were dedicated. A softball game between the South Bend Fire and Police Departments was held. They are very pleased with the improvements. She feels the stadium is becoming a year around facility. Attendance is behind last year due to the weather in the early spring. She hopes to make up attendance because they have more games in August this year. She thanked the Board for the use of park facilities during the Urban Adventure event. 3. Ms. Rachel the Special Events Coordinator for the Zoological Society reported that the recent Zoo Do event was very successful with over 100 people in attendance. Zoo Brew will be held September 10 from 7-10 pm. Half the tickets are sold at this point. Train and butterfly attendance are up despite the hot weather. 3. Mr. Meyer Blatt, 813 Berlin St.,Mishawaka, IN, spoke in opposition to the Board's position on SB 292. III. The next order of business was unfinished business. - - I - -
