GOAL: The City's Workff orce <br />Improve the City governor nt's existing workforce, work environment and human development <br />systems to ensure that Sou Bend has the human resources necessary to achieve all its goals for <br />the next five years. <br />City Mission Statement aid Department Purpose Statements <br />The City provides services o its customers through thirteen administrative departments. These <br />departments have unique p oses that are intended to support the citywide mission statement <br />which is "to be recognize as a model city." Each department has developed a purpose <br />statement which identifies eir specific role. <br />Mayor's Office: Lead~ng the community to become a model city through formulating <br />polic ,directing operations and responding to customer concerns. <br />Common Council: Mak'ng certain that our City government is always responsive to the needs <br />of o residents and that the betterment of Soutli Bend is always our <br />high st priority. <br />City Clerk's Office: Pres ruing all City Ordinances and Council meeting minutes for <br />gene ations yet to be, and providing fair and consistent treatment of our <br />Ordi ante Violations Bureau customers. <br />Administration <br />and Finance: Prov ding financial and organizational stability for the City through sound <br />finan ial management while ensuring the existence of a safe work <br />envir nment, quality employee benefits and equal treatment for all City <br />empl yees. <br />Legal Department: Prov ding superior, professional and ethical legal services for our client, <br />the C'ty of South Bend. <br />Police Department: Prote ting the life, property and personal liberties of all individuals; <br />impr ving the overall quality of life by deterring; criminal activity and <br />respe ting cultural diversity; delivering fair and impartial law enforcement <br />servi es to all residents. <br />Fire Department: Prov' ing the highest level of Fire and Emergency Medical Services <br />possi le to all of our customers, saving lives anti property, and striving to <br />beco e a model Fire Department for other cities in an efficient and cost- <br />effec ive manner. <br />Code Enforcement: Main arcing and improving the physical quality of life in our <br />neig borhoods. <br />Park and <br />Recreation: Offe~ing all residents and guests of South Bend the highest quality of <br />xii <br />
