IX. Comments by the Director of Marketing & Promotions <br />L Mr. Bradley reported that policy updates and revisions are underway for 2008. <br />2. Mr. Jim Karas, a well known fitness specialist, will be speaking at the O'Brien Center on <br />October 20. He is a best selling author and guest on "Oprah." We are partnering with B- <br />100 in this event. <br />3. The memorandum of understanding with the Botanical Society is in its first draft. <br />4. The Mayor's fall Government Academy was held again last week with 10 attendees. <br />X. Comments by the Zoo Director <br />1. Mr. DeRosa explained that the architects were to concentrate on HVAC~ electrical, water, <br />and roofing problems to get a consistent quote. Alternates were requested to address <br />alternative repairs. <br />2. The Botanical Society and greenhouse staff discussed how they feel things are going and <br />they seemed pleased with the progress. <br />3. He visited with Fort Wayne Zoo and spent the day «-ith their director and marketing <br />department to see how they have done so well with their strategic planning and marketing. <br />He brought back ideas to implement. <br />4. The Michiana Bird Society president, Al Ennis, visited and looked at the toucan aviaries. <br />They are starting a flamingo fund to purchase 20 flamingos for the renovated exhibit. <br />5. River City Plumbing and Heating repaired the ventilation system in the lion and tiger <br />building. They donated their services to do this and he thanked them for their help. <br />6. The Zoological Society has accepted bids for the renovation of the South American area. <br />They have a $50,000 grant from the Community Foundation as well as train revenues for <br />this project. It is tentatively priced at $89,000. <br />7. A preventative maintenance program is being researched. <br />8. Mr. Bruce Stevens, an operant conditioning trainer, visited the Zoo for four days and met <br />with keepers to show them how to train animals to undergo procedures and medication <br />without sedation. ThenZoo Society paid for his stay. <br />9. The Zoo passed a recent USDA inspection. <br />10. The talon pool has been installed. <br />11. Zoo Farm is closing for the season. <br />XL Comments by the Assistant Recreation Director <br />L Mr. McMinn reported that the Fall Family Fun Fair at Rum Village Park was a great <br />success with between 4,000 and 5,000 attending. <br />2. The Fright Fest haunted house will be at the Newman Center October 24-27. <br />XII. Comments by the Golf Operations Director <br />1. Mr. Nowacki reported that fall rates began October 1. <br />-4- <br />
