A motion was made by Dr. Kelly to approve maintenance vouchers for September 2007 <br />totaling $956,876.81. It was seconded by Mr. Goodrich. There being no further <br />discussion, the motion was passed. <br />VII. Business of the Superintendent <br />1. Superintendent St. Clair reported that the Department was accredited by the NRPA at the <br />national convention in Indianapolis in September. <br />2. A grant from the Kellogg Foundation, in partnership with the Community Foundation, was <br />awarded to the City. We were only one of three agencies in the state of Indiana to be <br />awarded the grant. It will be used to upgrade the accessibility at Potawatomi Park. It is in <br />the amount of $745,000. The Kellogg Foundation will provide $400,000 and the <br />Community Foundation will raise the remaining funds. $129,000 will be used as an <br />endowment to provide for ongoing maintenance and improvements. The project will be to <br />provide paved walkways and 100% accessible playground areas throu~~h the park. It is <br />hoped to be completed next summer. <br />3. The Leeper Tennis project is coming along well. The asphalt color coating will be done <br />next spring after the weather allows. <br />4. On October 2 and 3 Superintendent St. Clair met with a group of consultants and <br />architects that were brought in by the Holladay Group to come up with development ideas <br />for the East Bank area. Area business people and citizens were involved in the process. <br />The area is bounded by the river on the west, LaSalle St. on the north, St. Joseph Medical <br />Center on the east and Howard Park on the south. <br />They will come back later with their ideas and concepts in a presentation. <br />VIII. Comments by Maintenance Superintendent <br />1. Mr. Dyszkiewicz reported that the lights at Leeper Park Tennis Center will be going up <br />this week. The buildin~~ will be upgraded with a new roof and windows and doors newt <br />year. <br />2. Mr. Dyszl:iewicz attended a demonstration regarding waterless restrooms. It is hoped to <br />install one at O'Brien and one at the East Race. They are useful in areas where water and <br />sewer lines are not readily available. The cost is around $15,000 each. <br />3. Mr. Dyszkiewicz spoke to Mr. Paul Borowski on October 1 regarding his requests about <br />Tarkington Park Mr. Borowski's two issues were the downed limbs in the park and the <br />~~ate at the entrance needing to be repaired. These issues were corrected. Dr. Kelly <br />suggested Mr. Dyszkiewicz send a memo to Mr. Borowski stating that his concerns had <br />been addressed and corrected per their telephone call. Mr. Dyszkiewicz said he would. <br />4. The splash pads at O'Brien and King Centers has started and will be done by the end of <br />the month. <br />5. Mowing is wrapping up and leaf pick up will begin soon. <br />6. Water shut offs are under way. <br />-3- <br />
