B. Project Mission /Objectives <br />The mission is to achieve the economic revitalization and physical <br />redevelopment of the South Side Development Area as an attractive, safe <br />and viable urban area for people, households, businesses and <br />institutions. A comprehensive set of more specific goals related to this <br />mission follow: <br />Increase the tax base <br />2. Increase the amount of residential, commercial, and industrial <br />investment within and adjacent to the development area <br />3. Improve the traffic circulation patterns in the development area <br />4. Maintain and support the public recreational facilities that exist <br />within the development area <br />5. Stabilize and revitalize the residential adjacent neighborhoods <br />Related to these goals are a series of objectives. Some of these <br />objectives apply to the whole project area. Other objectives, as identified, <br />apply to the unique challenges and opportunities facing the individual sub- <br />areas of the South Side Development Area. The area -wide objectives are <br />to: <br />Create and maintain a strong private /public organizational <br />framework in which to develop and implement redevelopment and <br />revitalization strategies, programs and projects. <br />2. Establish and maintain a consistently high level of quality in design <br />and materials for new construction and rehabilitation projects, <br />public space, landscaping, lighting and signage. <br />3. Increase the level of private investment and reinvestment. <br />4. Improve the overall neighborhood environment, including the <br />physical, social, economic, community and public safety conditions. <br />20 <br />
