The shopping center is <br />to have 17 stores and 450 parking spaces. Hilton <br />Construction Co., Kenneth Hilton, South Bend <br />1956 Construction begins on Broadmoor Shopping Plaza <br />1960 Talk of a new, multi - million dollar, shopping center at the SE <br />corner of Miami and Ireland. 54 Acres. Neighbors fight the <br />rezoning from residential to commercial. <br />Town and Country Shopping Center breaks ground. <br />Developers: Casto & Skilken, Columbus, OH. <br />1961 Town and Country opens on McKinley Avenue in Mishawaka <br />1966 Scottsdale Mall is conceptualized by developers Casto & <br />Skilken, Columbus, OH. "...one of the most modern, all- <br />weather, regional shopping centers in the world... 521,000 <br />SF all year, comfort- controlled shopping center will give the <br />20- county retail trade area its first and Indiana's finest <br />regional shopping center." ($25 million project) <br />1970 Scottsdale Mall developers ask the State Highway <br />Commission to alter the bypass route, moving it slightly to <br />the south to allow additional parking for the mall. State <br />Highway Commission denies the request. Mall developers <br />proceed anyway. <br />1971 Scottsdale Mall breaks ground after a 5 Y2 year delay <br />($12 million project) <br />1972 North Village Mall construction underway. Real American <br />Development Co., South Bend. ($2.1 million project) <br />Economic feasibility study conducted by a national firm <br />indicated a tremendous need for a regional shopping center <br />in the NE portion of the county.
