South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—June 28, 2011
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Tax Abatements
(1) continued...
first be approved by the South Bend
Redevelopment Commission; the project
meets the qualifications for up to a six-year
real property tax abatement under the tax
abatement ordinance.
Mr. Deahl, Barnes & Thornburg, noted that
this is a proposed investment by GVW
Realty, LLC to nearly double the size of a
facility on Quality Drive in South Bend.
Currently the facility is Best One Tire, an
affiliate of GVW, and next door will be
Premier's largest customer. Ultimately, it will be a relocation of the
total facility, the retreading facility and
employment currently located in Mishawaka.
This will help both Premier and Best One
Tire continue to grow.
Mr. Downes questioned whether there were
any environmental issues involved with the
retreading of the tires. Mr. Deahl responded
there were not, to his knowledge.
Mr. Yoder responded as well that there really
are not any environmental issues.
Ms. Jones noted, in addition to Ms. Hahn's
report, that the existing taxes that will be paid
is $342,024. It's important to note that the
abated taxes are new taxes that would be
18
