- 1A
South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —March 1, 2002
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
D. Sample -Ewing Development Area
(4) continued...
exterior improved. Some of the
improvements took place; they have not
been completed because of the need to
spend funds intended for the exterior to
upgrade the sprinkler system. Mr.
Lambert was allowed to put the exterior
improvements on hold while he financially
focused on the sprinkler system which was
more of a safety issue. Of the six systems,
three are now fully functional and there is
a plan to complete the remaining three
before the end of this year. After that, Mr.
Lambert will be expected to complete the
work on the exterior of the building. The
bail bond signs do not appear to be
consistent with the design of the building
and the improvements that were already
approved by the Commission.
Mr. Dewald advised the Commission that
he would very much like to sublease the
building. Mr. Dewald agreed that his
signs would look like a billboard and that
was his original objective. He could agree
to a smaller sign, possibly illuminated,
above the door in the front entrance.
Ms. Kolata advised that staff would be
agreeable to working with Mr. Dewald on
smaller signage for the entrance. That will
also let people know where to enter the
building. Ms. Kolata recommended that
the Commission authorize Mr. Lambert to
sublease a portion of 410 Sample to
Dewald Bail Bonds, but require a written
sublease for the protection of all involved.
wt
