South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting— October 18, 2002
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
H. Other
(1) continued...
the STIF area is utilized within that District
for "public works" type projects. Due to the
commercial nature of the new development
area, inclusion of residential is being avoided
if possible. One of the benefits of the
development area is a twenty -six acre landfill
site owned by the Fitterling family. There is
potential for redevelopment on the landfill
site through remediation or other
environmental work. There is also
speculation regarding the redevelopment of
the mall in the area. This Declaration would
help any mall effort by providing necessary
redevelopment and financial mechanisms. A
copy of the actual development plan is
expected to be distributed to Commissioners
for review prior to the November 1, 2002
Regular Redevelopment Commission
Meeting.
No action was taken by the Commission.
7. PROGRESS REPORTS
Mr. Rock reported that the proposed expansion of
Memorial Hospital, the Southeast Neighborhood Park
project, and the designation of a new development area
on the south side are all very exciting new ventures.
The Steve Cooreman project is moving forward on the
northwest side proposing over two hundred new homes.
Annexation will be completed on October 20, 2002.
It was noted that Tech Data and TJX are continuously
moving forward, while Oliver Plow is still under
demolition.
16
NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY THE COMMISSION.
