South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting —June 20, 2003 <br />6. NEW BUSINESS <br />B. South Bend Central Development Area <br />(3) Commission approval requested for <br />proposal for preparation of designs and <br />cost estimates for construction in the <br />South Bend Central Development Area. <br />(Palais retail space) <br />Mr. Mathia reported that Mr. David Sassano <br />has submitted a proposal to prepare the <br />designs and cost estimates for construction <br />of a generic "vanilla box" in the Palais retail <br />space which would include both the ground <br />floor and the basement. Mr. Sassano was <br />the architect in charge of construction for the <br />Palais Ballroom renovation and as a result <br />has extensive knowledge of the Palais <br />ILI building. The cost for preparation of the <br />design and cost estimates is $6,000. <br />Mr. Sassano has also proposed completing <br />the merging of any tenant's proposed design <br />with our basic design and overseeing <br />renovation construction on an hourly basis <br />of $75.00 per hour. Staff recommends <br />approval of the proposal and authorization <br />of total expenditures not to exceed <br />$12,000.00. <br />Upon a motion by Mr. Kahn, seconded by <br />Mr. Blake and unanimously carried, the <br />Commission approved the request for a <br />design and cost estimate proposal in the <br />South Bend Central Development Area and <br />authorized staff to retain Mr. David Sassano <br />based on the scope of services and fee <br />proposed.
