The median <br />household income of the Area is roughly <br />62% of that of the City of South Bend as a <br />whole. <br />Lack of development in the Northeast <br />Neighborhood is evidenced by not only the <br />lack of new business activity and housing <br />starts, but the retreat of longstanding <br />businesses, institutions and residents. <br />St. Joseph Regional Medical Center <br />administrators have announced that the <br />hospital facility that has existed on LaSalle <br />Avenue for a century will be vacated by <br />2006. Another high - profile closure was that <br />of Aldi's and Goodwill in 1998.
