South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Annual Organizational Meeting— January 2, 2004 <br />6. PROGRESS REPORTS (CONT.) <br />Brownfields <br />1. Received $789,790.00 Brownfield Revolving <br />Loan for Fredrickson Park. Loan was received <br />from Indiana's EPA funded loan program. A <br />second loan of $210,210 should be closed before <br />the end of the year bringing the total loan amount <br />to $1,000,000. Remediation work began in July <br />and will be complete in early 2004. Private <br />funds must be raised for new park and outdoor <br />educational, environmental classroom. <br />2. Received $100,000 US EPA grant for USTfields <br />program. Grant will be used for site assessments <br />of former gas stations and other petroleum <br />related sites along the commercial corridors. <br />Proposals from seven environmental consultants <br />were received and reviewed. Wightman Petrie <br />was hired as the environmental consultant on the <br />project. The work will be done in 2004. <br />3. Submitted proposals to US EPA for $200,000 <br />Assessment Grant, $250,000 Revolving Loan <br />Fund Grant, $200,000 Cleanup Grant for Oliver <br />Plow property and, $200,000 Cleanup Grant for <br />remediation of wood block flooring at stamping <br />plant. Expect to hear in April or May 2004 if <br />grants applications are approved. <br />4. Continued to meet with Brownfield Team. Team <br />has developed a Policy Statement and Goals. <br />5. Prepared mobile workshop and presentation <br />materials for IACT conference. Reviewed <br />potential projects for EPA grant applications. <br />6. Provided environmental information/advice to <br />Business Assistance staff on approximately three <br />potential development sites. <br />7. Presented South Bend's Brownfield Initiative to <br />professional audience of Rural Electrical <br />Cooperative Economic Development <br />representatives. (Indianapolis, June) <br />-7- <br />
