Redevelopment Commission Meeting
Regular Meeting — August 20, 2004
Mr. Mathia noted that on July 30, the
Redevelopment Commission acquired the
former Rink Riverside building and associated
property located at 209 East Colfax. In
response to questions concerning the use of the
property, including whether the building
should be demolished, staff requests additional
input. To assist staff and the Commission in
making a decision concerning the use of this
property, Architecture Design Group (ADG)
has submitted a letter proposal to examine the
building. The proposed purpose of ADG's
examination will be to determine: (1) whether
the building is worth preserving for renovation;
and (2) if the building is worth preserving,
what would be its best use. ADG will provide
an executive summary outlining the condition
of the building with estimates of probable
construction costs for renovation. The
proposed fee for this scope of services is
$9,000.
Staff recommends approving the proposal
submitted by ADG and further requests
approval of funding up to $10,500 to cover
reimbursable expenses. ADG developed the
designs for the recent Chocolate Cafe addition
and the adjacent plaza. Both designs have
been well received. The firm demonstrated a
sensitivity for historic buildings and their
surrounding environment in the two designs.
The firm also demonstrated an excellent
imaginative ability in its conceptual drawings
for the De Rue Court shopping plaza. That
concept is now being seriously considered for
incorporation into any parking garage that may
be constructed to replace the one that was
demolished earlier this year.
Upon a motion by Mr. Kahn, seconded by Mr.
Hunt and unanimously carried the Commission
c 4
COMMISSION APPROVED THE PROPOSAL
SUBMITTED BY ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN GROUP
FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES IN THE SOUTH
