South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting — June 17, 2005
The bid period will be open until August 8, 2005. It is
anticipated that a contract will be awarded in August
and work will begin in September. The demolition is
expected to take eighteen months. At the end of Phase I,
one half of Area A (which consists of 82 acres) will be
cleared and available. Specification documents are
being finalized by staff.
Mr. Laurent also reported that finishing touches are
being completed at the Oliver Industrial Park. Signage
design has been started, street trees and new sidewalks
will be added along Chapin Street, and staff is working
with the Sewer Department which will put wild flowers
and bollards around the retention pond for beautification
purposes.
Mr. Inks asked if implosion was a possibly for
demolition of the stamping plant.
Mr. Laurent responded that bidders will be asked to
provide an alternate bid for implosive demolition. It is
anticipated that some will bid on that option; others will
not. Sixteen (16) nationwide contractors have been pre -
approved out of the twenty -seven (27) demolition
contractors interested in the project.
Ms. Greene noted that the pre - approval of demolition
contractors was subject to a pre - qualification bid.
8.
