South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting — October 21, 2005
7. PROGRESS REPORTS (CONT.)
members of the public were anxious for quicker
progress to dispose of the sites, but he is very happy
with the process we have gone through to develop RFPs
for the sites and carefully studying the current
conditions. The process helps ensure that we get the
best public benefit for the tax payers' money expended.
Mr. Laurent reported that the City of South Bend was
approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development for $11.8 million in financing for the
Studebaker /Oliver redevelopment project. That
financing will bring in the majority of funding necessary
to complete redevelopment of the Studebaker Area A,
which is all the Studebaker plant south of the police
station. This is very significant financing that staff has
been working on for about three years. Stamping Plant
demolition will be the first step, then acquisition and
demolition of the remaining properties to create the new
light industrial park.
8.
