South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
continue ...
Commission in the form of Confirming
Resolution No. 2351. Mr. Witwer noted that
the consolidation with Sample-Ewing
Development Area and the addition of
LaSalle Square and the Marycrest/Hurwich
areas give the city opportunity to direct funds
to these areas in need of revitalization.
Ms. Jones opened the Public Hearing on PUBLIC HEARING ON RESOLUTION N0.2351
Resolution No. 2351 for whoever wished to
speak.
Mayor Luecke: The city has had some great
success in the Airport Economic
Development Area bringing new investment
and new jobs and generating a revenue
stream in the TIF accounts. It was brought to
our attention by Charlotte Pfeifer and
members of the neighborhood around
LaSalle Square that it would be important to
extend the Airport TIF to that area in order to
make some public works investment there
and other things that would encourage
additional private investment. We thought
that was a great idea for not only LaSalle
Square, but also for other west side areas that
lacked resources. Therefore, we have drawn
the boundaries to some additional west side
areas as well as LaSalle Square. The
connection of these areas is one of usage.
They are all commercial/industrial areas.
And it also ties into the Sample-Ewing
Development Area to allow us to continue
and expand on some of the work we've done
there in terms of clearance of Studebaker
buildings to make way for new investment
7
