South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —June 28, 2011
that Notre Dame has been working on this
for three years. They had a draft
memorandum of understanding that was put
aside because Notre Dame has a policy that
any University building has had to have
100% commitment and 75% funds in hand
before Notre Dame would go forward on a
project. They will have an MOU before the
project moves forward.
Mr. Varner asked what the boundaries were
in the MOU. Mr. Gibney responded that the
draft MOU in 2009 was a strong start. Now
that the university has raised the funds it
needed, that MOU will be tightened up, but
not radically different than what the
Commission has seen before.
Mr. Brown Gort added that once Notre Dame
takes over ownership, they then will be doing
community programs out of the building and
will maintain the building from there on.
Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by
Ms. King and unanimously carried, the
Commission approved the additional funding
request of $430,000 for the Hansel Center
project, subject to the Legal Department's
approval of the Memorandum of
Understanding, and authorized Mr. Inks to
sign the document.
E. South Side Development Area
(1) Resolution No. 2909 approving and
authorizing the execution of an
amendment to the Addendum to the
Master Agency Agreement for Erskine
Detention Pond Reconstruction —
Construction Management Supplement
#1.
34
COMMISSION APPROVED THE ADDITIONAL
FUNDING REQUEST OF $430,000 FOR THE
HANSEL CENTER PROJECT, SUBJECT TO THE
LEGAL DEPARTMENT'S APPROVAL OF THE
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING, AND
AUTHORIZED MR. INKS TO SIGN THE DOCUMENT
