South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —June 28, 2011
Northeast Neighborhood Design Guidelines.
I will keep this short and to the point.
To make a list of covenants for all current
and future property owners on and about
land that is not owned by those who wish to
impose these covenants is, in my opinion, a
violation of our individual property rights
and in some cases (such as telling folks what
color of landscape lighting they may use,
etc...) could be considered a violation of our
freedom of expression. Who determines what
is an approved day to have colored lights?
If those who want these covenants, wanted to
impose them on property they own, then they
would have a right to do so. Imposing them
on property you don't own is wrong and a
violation of our rights and freedoms.
It is wrong to tell folks they have to spend
more money and use more expensive
products to build a home on the Northeast
side than in another part of town. That is
like saying you only want the wealthy to
build in the Northeast side of town and the
poorer folks can build elsewhere.
Whatever the building codes are for the rest
of city should be the same for anyone
wanting to build on the Northeast side.
Wayne Curry
Resident Northeast Side of town
1050 Burns Ave.
South Bend, IN 46617
Phone: 574- 288 -3645
Email: wayneccons&aol. com
Ms. Maradik noted that it was an oversight
for the guidelines not to be brought back for
12
