South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —May 24, 2011
This project would extend the conduit down
Nimtz Parkway to Schafer Gear. It would
also make the Metronet accessible to other
businesses between Moreau Court and
Schafer Gear.
You may recall Schafer Gear (or related
entities) recently received approval for tax
abatement on a project approaching $18
million of new investment that was both real
property and new building as well as a large
amount of equipment put in that building.
There will be 26 new jobs created in the next
two years. This is part of the city's
investment for that project.
Mr. Varner noted that this is the sixth or
seventh year of construction on the Metronet.
He feels they should begin paying a lease or
fee of some kind to the city as do Comcast
and AT &T. Mr. Inks responded that as part
of the agreement between the city and
Metronet, Metronet is required to provide the
city a certain numbers of pairs (32).
Mr. Downes questioned the extension
beyond Schafter Gear. Mr. Inks responded
that it is in various parts of the corporate
office park, but the eastern part of Nimtz
still needs the Metronet to be extended down
to serve the other businesses.
Upon a motion by Mr. Varner, seconded by
Mr. Downes and unanimously carried, the
Commission approved Resolution No. 2882
approving and authorizing the execution of
an Addendum to the Master Agency
Agreement (Schaffer Gear Metronet Conduit
Project).
D. West Washington- Chapin Development Area
23
COMMISSION APPROVED RESOLUTION No. 2882
APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION
OF AN ADDENDUM TO THE MASTER AGENCY
AGREEMENT (SCHAFFER GEAR METRONET
CONDUIT PROJECT)
