Lnnn) Pollutant means dredged spoil solid waste, incinerator residue, filter <br />backwash sewage, garbage, sewage sludge, munitions Medical Wastes chemical <br />wastes, biological materials, radioactive materials, heat, wrecked or discarded <br />equipment, rock, sand, cellar dirt, municipal, agricultural and industrial wastes, <br />and certain characteristics of wastewater (e.g nH, temperature, TSS, turbidity <br />color. BOD, COD, toxicity, or odor). <br />000 Pretreatment means the reduction of the amount of pollutants, the <br />elimination of pollutants, or the alteration of the nature of pollutant properties in <br />wastewater to a less harmful state prior to or in lien of discharging or otherwise <br />introducing such pollutants into a POTW. The reduction or alteration can be <br />obtained by physical, chemical or biological processes, process changes or by <br />other means, except as prohibited by 40 CFR Section 403.6(d); and shall include <br />all applicable rules and regulations contained in the Code of Federal Regulations <br />as published in the Federal Register, under Section 307 of PL 95 -217, under <br />regulation 40 CFR Part 403 pursuant to the Act, and amendments. <br />(p Pretreatment requirement shall: means any substantive or procedural <br />requirement related to pretreatment imposed on an industrial user, other than a <br />pretreatment standard. <br />fqqq) Pretreatment standard (or standards) shall means prehibitive prohibited <br />discharge standards, categorical pretreatment standards or local limits. <br />Lrrr) Private sewer means a sewer which is not owned by public authority. <br />sss Prohibited Discharge Standards or Prohibited Discharges means absolute <br />prohibitions against the discharge of certain substances• these prohibitions al2year <br />in Division 3, Section 17 -8_(c of this Article_ <br />ttt Properly shredded garbage means the wastes from the preparation, cooking <br />and dispensing of food that has been shredded to such a degree that all particles <br />will be carried freely under the flow conditions normally prevailing in public <br />sewers, with no particle greater than one -half (1 /2) inch in any dimension. <br />uuu Publicly owned treatment works (or POTW) means a "treatment works," as <br />defined by Section 212 of the Act (33 U.S.C. 1292) which is owned by the City. <br />This definition includes any devices or systems used in collection, storage, <br />treatment, recycling and reclamation of sewage or industrial wastes of a liquid <br />nature and any conveyances which convey wastewater to a treatment plant. <br />vvv ) Public sewer means a sewer which is owned and controlled by the public <br />authority and will consist of the following increments: collector sewer, interceptor <br />sewer, force main, pumping station. <br />12 <br />
