Luecke, Mayor <br />Councilmember David Varner, 1306 Clayton Drive, South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation <br />for this Resolution by first offering his comments and then reading the Resolution in its entirety <br />and asking the City Clerk’s Office to send a copy to the appropriate representatives. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to <br />this Resolution. <br />Councilmember Varner made a motion to adopt this Resolution by acclamation. Councilmember <br />Dieter seconded the motion, which carried. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3461-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON <br /> COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br /> BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY <br /> COMMENDING THE MANY <br /> JOURNALISTS FROM THE SOUTH <br /> BEND TRIBUNE FOR EARNING <br /> AWARDS AND HONORS FROM THE <br /> INDIANA CHAPTER OF THE SOCIETY <br /> OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS FOR <br /> JOURNALISM EXCELLENCE <br />Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana notes that the Society <br />of Professional Journalists was founded in 1909 and is the nation’s largest not-for-profit <br />journalism organization with over 13,500 journalists who “believe that public enlightenment is <br />the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy” ; and <br />Whereas, the Society of Professional Journalists believe that the duty of the journalist is <br />to seek truth and provide a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues, while serving <br />the public with thoroughness, honesty and professional integrity; and <br />Whereas, the South Bend Common Council proudly recognizes the following journalists <br />stnd <br />from the South Bend Tribune who earned eight (8) 1 place awards, three (3) 2 place awards <br />rd <br />and two (2) 3 place awards for their work in the “2004 Best in Indiana Journalism” by the <br />Indiana Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists held on April 29, 2005, namely: <br />4 <br /> <br />
